About the Jams
Our contact improv jams are weekly gatherings where people come together to explore creative, improvised movement in partnership with others.
They are a space to play, learn, connect, and discover new possibilities through movement - without choreography, without needing to “perform,” and without needing previous experience.
Whether you’re completely new to movement or have years of experience, there is a place for you here.

What happens at a jam?
The jams happen twice a week and are an open space for exploration. We don’t follow set choreography or learn routines. Instead, we listen to our own bodies, respond to others, and create movement together in the moment.
Through partnered improvisation, we explore things like: How do I move when I’m listening deeply to my body? How do I connect and communicate without words? How can I support and be supported by another person? What feels playful, creative, and alive?
Contact improv is a practice of curiosity, awareness, and connection. It invites us to explore our own movement while learning how to move with others.

A diverse community of movers
One of the things we love most about our jams is the incredible diversity of people who gather in the space. In fact, it is the most diverse contact improvisation space in North America!
Our community includes complete beginners alongside experienced movers, dancers, and movement artists. People join us from many different backgrounds, including dance, gymnastics, yoga, acro yoga, flow arts, figure skating, pole dancing, martial arts, theatre, clowning, and many other creative practices. Each person brings their own unique way of moving, sensing, and expressing themselves. When all of these perspectives come together, we discover new possibilities, learn from each other, and expand what movement can be.
While movement is at the heart of our jams, the community that grows around it is something we value and foster. Many people continue connecting after the jams through optional food, drinks, or conversations, creating space to share, reflect, and spend more time together beyond the dance floor.

Different ways to join the movement
The Wednesday jams begin with a guided class before the jam. Most often, these classes focus on contact improvisation, exploring the foundations of the practice and developing skills around listening, movement with partners, communication, and creative movement.

We also regularly invite guest teachers from different movement backgrounds to share their knowledge and help us step outside of our usual patterns. Each class is an opportunity to learn something new, expand our movement vocabulary, and bring fresh inspiration into the jam.
The Sunday jams offer a more open and spontaneous movement experience, where you can arrive and explore at your own pace. While there is no structured class beforehand, facilitators and experienced movers are there to offer support, answer questions, and help you find your way into the practice.

Consent, safety and care
Consent and safety are at the heart of our practice.
Contact improvisation is a deeply collaborative form of movement, which means we are constantly listening and responding - not only to movement, but also to each other’s boundaries, comfort, and needs.
We invite everyone to communicate openly, respect personal boundaries, ask before exploring new forms of contact, listen to their own body and instincts, and take care of themselves throughout the practice.
There is no expectation to move in any particular way. Every person has the agency to choose what feels right for them, whether that means participating fully, taking a pause, or simply observing.
We believe the most creative and supportive movement spaces are built on trust, care, curiosity, and mutual respect.
